ArtTalk: Before the Law: Post-War Sculpture and Contemporary Installations

February 2, 6.30 pm
Museum Ludwig

The top floor of Museum Ludwig is dedicated to this controversial show, highlighting an impressive group of sculpture played off againstt a selection of today’s multi-media artists.  Be prepared for the unexpected; in last show before his retirement, museum director Kaspar König takes the title of Franz Kafka’s parable “Vor dem Gesetz” in order to question the role of art in society today. Entire rooms exhibit single powerful, large installations. Art has been selected that reflects the fragility and core tensions of our existence. The predominate question hangs in the air: how can artistic expression effectively deal with such complex subjects that touch on our social nature, vulnerability and creativity – and still be art?
